The SENKO Group is working to realize a society based on a circular economy by reducing new resource use and recycling and reusing existing resources while taking advantage of waste distribution to collect resources.
We're collecting plastic garment bags used to protect apparel, which used to be discarded as waste, at the time of product delivery; compressing them so they take up less space at our logistics centers; delivering them to recyclers; and then distributing them again as recycled garment bags.
The SENKO Group has begun using environmentally friendly recycled plastic pallets. Recycled plastic pallets are made by recycling plastic from collected pallets, containers, and other packaging materials.
Pallets that are no longer usable due to damage or other issues can be recycled again, and the Group is addressing environmental problems by using them as environmentally friendly products.
Tokyo Nohin Daiko Co., Ltd. uses plastic pallets that contain a proportion of marine plastic (ocean-bound plastic, or OBP*). (The pallets are manufactured by Gifu Plastic Industry Co., Ltd.)
* The term “ocean-bound plastic” refers to plastic that by virtue of its location in inland areas lying within 50 kilometers of the coast could be carried to the ocean by rivers and streams. The plastic is collected and recycled.
Compared to virgin plastic, use of these pallets reduces CO₂ emissions by 11,322 kilograms per 1,000 pallets and helps prevent some 495 kilograms of plastic from flowing into ocean waters.
